As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring that all components and materials supplied to Michell Bearings meet the required standards of quality and reliability. Working closely with both external suppliers and internal quality teams, you will be responsible for maintaining high quality standards across the supply chain, resolving issues, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The role will involve supplier audits, managing non-conformances, reviewing technical documentation, and supporting quality consistency across both UK operations and the facility in India. This is an opportunity to contribute to a critical function within the business, ensuring products meet both customer and regulatory expectations.

 

What you'll be doing

 

  • Conducting supplier evaluations and audits to ensure compliance with company and industry standards.
  • Assessing new suppliers and carrying out periodic reviews of existing suppliers to monitor performance.
  • Reviewing and approving supplier quality documentation, including PPAPs, FMEAs and control plans.
  • Ensuring customer quality requirements are understood and effectively flowed down across the supply chain.
  • Managing non-conformance issues, working with suppliers to implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Supporting inspection and testing of incoming materials to ensure they meet required specifications.
  • Coordinating and witnessing supply chain activities where required.
  • Driving consistency in supplier quality management across UK and India operations.
  • Leading and supporting continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Applying Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to improve processes and reduce defects.
  • Providing training and support to suppliers and colleagues to meet quality expectations.
  • Maintaining accurate records of audits, assessments and corrective actions · Producing reports on supplier performance, including defect rates and quality trends.
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of supplier-related policies, processes and performance monitoring.
  • Supporting wider business improvement activities and undertaking additional duties as required.

 

Who we're looking for

 

The ideal candidate will have experience in supplier quality engineering within a manufacturing or industrial environment, with a strong understanding of quality management systems such as ISO 9001 and core quality tools including FMEA, PPAP, SPC and 8D. They will be a detail-oriented and analytical problem solver, with the ability to build effective working relationships with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers. Strong communication skills and the ability to influence and drive improvements across the supply chain are essential. They will be comfortable working in a dynamic environment, including international collaboration and travel. Experience within bearings, heavy manufacturing or a project-based engineering environment would be advantageous, as would familiarity with hydrodynamic bearing technologies. A relevant engineering or quality qualification is required, with additional certifications such as Six Sigma Green Belt desirable.
