Michell Bearings is part of the British Engines Group and is a global leader in the design and manufacture of hydrodynamic bearings for nuclear power plants.

Product applications include bearings for nuclear reactor cooling water pumps/motors inside the nuclear island, together with bearings for condensate extraction pumps/motors, cooling water circulation pumps/motors, steam turbines and generators in the conventional island.

Michell Bearings successfully completed station blackout (SBO) tests on a thrust and guide bearing used within the reactor coolant pump at a new build nuclear power plant.

In what is thought to be one of the world’s first successful bearing run downs, the test demonstrated the bearing’s ability to survive a station blackout condition without the use of an externally powered high pressure oil injection system. Read more.

As the world leading supplier of vertical shaft bearings for pump and motor applications together with tilting pad bearing internals, the water and power generation industries are core sectors for Michell Bearings.
