Gearboxes

Michell Bearings is an established and trusted manufacturer of hydrodynamic bearings for gearboxes.

We offer a range of thrust and journal bearings for gas and steam turbine applications. Our thrust bearings can be designed with or without load equalisation levers behind the thrust pads. The Self Equalised (SE) and Equalised Omega (OE) thrust bearings both incorporate equalisation levers, whereas the Omega (OT) range does not require this if used.

Our standard journal bearings range in shaft diameters from 40mm to 300mm and are manufactured with a steel housing and five centre-pivoted journal pads. The journal pads are designed to give a preloaded profile which ensures that a pressure generating, hydrodynamic oil wedge is formed between the journal pads and shaft journal, even under the lightest of loads.

For special applications, such as naval propulsion, Michell Bearings works with the gearbox manufacturer to develop specific product solutions for each project. Advanced bearing materials such as PEEK and PTFE can be used to improve bearing performance in addition to white metal (or babbitt).

Our global network and 24 hour manufacturing capability ensures we can react quickly and efficiently to customer requirements.

Benefits

    • High reliability
    • High load capacity
    • Long service life
    • Wide operating range
    • Low noise and vibration
    • High speed capability using PEEK

Bearings for this application

Select Bearings

SE Series

The Self Equalised (SE) Series is a range of equalised thrust bearing internals. The provision of interacting equalising levers behind the thrust pads allows thrust loads to be mechanically equalised across the complete thrust face.

Journal Pad Units

The range of Journal Pad Units (JPU) covers a shaft diameter range from 40-300mm.

Omega Equalised

The Omega Equalised Series is a range of equalised thrust bearing internals.

Omega

The philosophy of the Omega series involves offering various thrust pad sizes in different combinations to allow the most appropriate thrust bearing to be selected for the application.
